34 ఏళ్ల సుశీలాబెన్, గుజరాత్‌లోని డాంగ్‌లో ఒక మాజీ వ్యవసాయ వలస కార్మికురాలు, ఆమె జీవించడానికి ప్రతి సంవత్సరం తన కుటుంబంతో కలిసి వెళ్లవలసి వచ్చింది. వలసల ప్రభావం పిల్లలపై పడుతుందని గ్రహించిన ఆమె స్థానికంగా వ్యవసాయ క్షేత్రంలో పని చేస్తూ తన కుటుంబాన్ని పోషించుకోవాలని నిర్ణయించుకుంది. మా లెర్నింగ్ అండ్ మైగ్రేషన్ ప్రోగ్రామ్ (LAMP) అలాగే ఆమెకు మరియు ఇలాంటి పరిస్థితుల్లో ఉన్న అనేక మంది ఇతర మహిళలకు స్థానిక పాఠశాలల్లో పని చేయడానికి మరియు స్కూల్ మేనేజ్‌మెంట్ కమిటీ (SMC)లో భాగంగా ఉండటానికి శిక్షణ ఇచ్చింది. ఈ అవకాశం వారి పిల్లలను పాఠశాలలో ఉంచడానికి వీలు కల్పించింది-పేదరికం యొక్క చక్రం నుండి బయటపడటానికి కీలకమైన మొదటి అడుగు.

In honor of Women’s History Month, join us in saluting millions of girls and women in India who are striving each day to live better, more fulfilled lives.

Meet 34 year-old Sushilaben, a former agricultural migrant worker in Dang, Gujarat, who was forced to move each year with her family to survive. Realizing the impact migration has on children, she decided to support her family by working at a farm locally. Our Learning and Migration Program (LAMP) also trained her and many other women in similar situations to work in local schools, and be a part of the School Management Committee (SMC). This opportunity enabled them to keep their children in school–a crucial first step in breaking out of the cycle of poverty.
